ImagiNE – North East Imaging Network

Who we are

ImagiNE is a collaborative alliance uniting imaging expertise, infrastructure, and researchers across Newcastle, Durham, Northumbria, Sunderland, and Teesside Universities.

Our mission is to harness and integrate the region’s diverse imaging strengths, spanning molecular and preclinical imaging through to clinical technologies, to build a cohesive and forward-looking imaging ecosystem.

Through this collaboration, ImagiNE seeks to:

  • Advance research and technological innovation across all imaging modalities
  • Promote training, knowledge exchange, and skills development across disciplines and career stages
  • Enable cross-scale translation, linking preclinical discovery with clinical application
  • Align regional imaging strategy with national and international initiatives to maximise impact and visibility
  • Act as a regional imaging service and collaboration hub for industry, providing access to specialist infrastructure, expertise, and translational pipelines from preclinical to clinical imaging.

Services

Specialised software tools to extract and quantify datasets.

The Image Analysis Service at Newcastle University provides expert support for quantitative image analysis, automation, and workflow development. Services include segmentation, tracking, colocalisation analysis, high-content screening data interpretation, and bespoke computational workflows for microscopy and multimodal datasets. Training and consultancy are available to help researchers develop reproducible, FAIR image-processing pipelines.

Cross-discipline skills development and knowledge exchange.

ImagiNE is committed to developing and sustaining the North East’s expertise in imaging science and technology through coordinated training and collaboration. By connecting researchers, technical specialists, and clinicians, the network supports skills development across molecular, preclinical, clinical, and digital imaging platforms.

Through joint workshops, placements, and shared training initiatives, ImagiNE promotes cross-disciplinary understanding and methodological alignment across institutions. Our goal is to ensure long-term skill sustainability, embedding expertise in imaging technologies, image analysis, and data storage within the regional workforce to create a resilient and future-ready imaging community.
